Grand Theft Auto: Vice City now available on the Appstore
The wait is finally over, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is now available to download from the App Store. The 10th anniversary edition of the game has been revamped for mobile devices and includes high resolution graphics, updated controls and a host of new features.
From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man's rise to the top of the criminal pile. Vice City, a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, was one of the most varied, complete and alive digital cities ever created. Combining open-world gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and given the opportunity to take it over as you choose.
The game has some nice features for iOS users such as tailored firing and targeting options, customization of user controls, iCloud save game support, huge gaming campaign, support for Retina devices and you can even listen to your own iTunes Playlists while driving around Vice City.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is available from the App Store now and supports the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

Android Game: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light released on Android, exclusive to Xperia for now

The latest big name title to arrive on Android, is Square Enix's Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Fans of the Tomb Raider series of games will feel right at home, and while Android is pretty much the last place for this title to show up -- it's even on the BlackBerry PlayBook already -- as always, big titles are welcome.
The one, big, caveat at the moment though, is that the title is exclusive to Xperia devices for the time being. Playing a title such as this on an Xperia Play is sure to be an enjoyable experience, but for those of us without one of the supported Sony devices, we're just going to have to wait. There's no word at present on how long this exclusivity will last.
The good news for Xperia owners, is that for now at least, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light can be had for the low low price of £0.99/$1.29.

Android 4.1 : Jelly Bean
Android 4.1, codenamed Jelly Bean is the next version of Google's mobile OS, expected to be announced at Google I/O 2012. Details on exactly what's changed since the last major Android version, Ice Cream Sandwich, are scant. However given its status as a point update, we're expecting mostly minor iterative changes over Android 4.0. This also means the process of updating existing hardware to Jelly Bean should be a bit smoother than the Gingerbread-to-ICS transition. (Or at least that's what we're all hoping for.)

Microsoft's Windows 8 Tablet : Let the battle begin
Steve Ballmer and company announced the Microsoft Surface, a 10.6-inch 1.5 pound Windows 8 tablet, this evening in Los Angeles. Complete with a kickstand, and a Transformer-esque "cover" with a magnetic docking system and a tactile keyboard. We'll have to admit -- it's intriguing. It's also coming at a time when Microsoft is floundering in the mobile space with their smartphone offerings, and needs to hit one out of the park.
The hardware comes from Microsoft themselves, who made a big to-do about controlling both the hardware and the software of the Surface, and that's going to compete with their long-time partners like Samsung and HP, and more directly ASUS -- who has a knack for building great convergent tablet/laptop devices.. We're pretty certain we'll see similar models from other OEM's in the near future, but tonight was all about Microsoft.
What's probably most interesting is the fact that you'll be able to use the same full-featured programs you use today on a Windows computer on the Surface. That's a big deal, and gives this one some potential that more mobile-oriented tablets from Apple and Android OEM's simply lack. The Surface is more of a laptop competitor than a tablet competitor, and may force others to up the specs to keep in the running. Give me a tablet I can use to draw diagrams and schematics (or other "heavy" work) and I'm going to look twice. How about you? See anything here that grabs your eye? Hit the source links for more information, and there's a video after the break. Of course you'll find out everything you need to know about Microsoft's new gear at WPCentral.

Diving into iOS 6: The subtle design changes
Apple’s announced iOS 6 update is set to bring a lot of changes to its mobile platform, and after using the iOS 6 beta for a day, I’ve found plenty of new features Apple didn’t mention in the keynote on Monday, mostly small design changes, and even a subtle dig at Google.
Changes to iOS’s default look were something I’d hoped for, and the changes Apple made actually exceeded my expectations. Read on to see why.
Redesigned apps
•Music
The music app has been completely redesigned in iOS 6, echoing the changes made to the iPad music app in iOS 5. The main browsing interface has a white theme, but the now playing interface is still black. The play/pause and skip buttons have been redesigned as well. Another change is the sliders for volume and progress, which use white and black instead of silver and blue. Also, the chrome effect for slider knobs will actually rotate as you tilt the device, which is a nice detail.
•Phone
The keypad in the phone app has been changed to better match iOS’s new default theme. It uses a white color instead of the dark blue from iOS 5. The buttons have also been redesigned with lighter colors and a more three-dimensional look.
Reminders
You can now set priority for reminders and add notes to them. Notes will apear below the reminder in a smaller font. Reminders can also be reordered manually by hitting the Edit button. Last, you now have to swipe on the title of a reminder list to switch to another one instead of just anywhere on the list, and the dots to indicate which list you’re on are gone.
•Game Center
Game Center can now plug into Facebook and recommend people from your friends list who also have Game Center. You can also now challenge players to beat your scores, and there’s a new challenges tab where you can see them.
•Weather and Camera
The weather app has a new design with a flatter look and a subtle gradient running through it. The Camera app has a black toolbar at the bottom instead of the grey one from iOS 5.
Other changes
If you watched the keynote, you may have noticed that the status bar was blue in a lot of the apps Apple showed. This isn’t the new color for the status bar, however. Instead, the status bar changes color depending on the color of an app’s toolbar. Rdio’s toolbar is bright blue, so the status bar changes to reflect that. Developers can override this behavior, it seems, as Safari uses a black status bar (which is another change).
The share dialogue has been redesigned, and works much the same as the ones already in Garageband and iPhoto for iOS. Instead of a list, a grid of icons is shown, similar to the home screen. Also, sharing to messages, Facebook and Twitter have been added.
The App Store now has Genius, but it isn’t working in the current beta so I can’t tell you much about how it works. Genius, as you’ll recall, is Apple’s intelligent recommendation service built into iTunes and the music app. Bringing it to the App Store makes sense as an alternative to browsing.
iOS will stop correcting words not in the standard dictionary if you cancel the correction often enough. The word will instead be added to your personal dictionary and synced over iCloud.
Apps downloaded from the App Store will now display a “new” badge until you launch them the first time.
When you slide on a notification in the lock screen, the app zooms into view instead of just appearing.
Notification Center can now show you Amber Alerts and other emergency alerts for your area.
Spotlight will now tell you which folder an app is in when you search for it, which makes it easier to find.
The search bar in Safari simply says “Search” instead of “Google,” yet another dig at the company.
Unfortunately, only registered developers have access to the iOS 6 beta, so most of our readers won’t be able to run it and take a look at the pending changes for themselves. We’ve got you covered, though, and we will continue to write about the impending changes as Apple adds them until the new software is released this fall.
Which changes are you most excited for in iOS 6?

Viewsonic's 22-inches Tablet
Yes, you did read that right. 22-inches. Putting Toshiba's 13-inch effort in the shade, Viewsonic could be about to go where no Android OEM has gone before by introducing a tablet the size of a PC monitor.
Touted as a "smart business tablet monitor," the colossal Ice Cream Sandwich device could be set for it's first public viewing at the forthcoming Computex show in Taipei.
What the average consumer could do with something like this remains to be seen. If it does exist though, it's an interesting concept and exciting to see companies thinking outside the box. Probably wouldn't want to take this on the bus to work though.
No word on prospective specs or pricing for whatever this turns out to be, but at 22-inches, it's not likely to be cheap. Computex is only a few days away though, so we'll know soon enough.

Windows 8 Launcher for Android
The ability to run custom launchers is one which certainly gives Android the edge over rivaling mobile OSes, and Go Launcher – a home screen alternative we featured a short while ago – is without doubt one of the best around.
Often referred to as "home screen replacements" as well as simply launchers, some of the better ones can yield fantastic results, and Android’s open source-ness presents the perfect breeding ground for them to flourish. Unlike other mobile OSes, which offer precious little in the way of home screen customization, launchers allow you to alter the way the home screen acts, presents itself when the home button on your device is pressed. Best of all, you needn’t be a seasoned Android hacker or developer in order to install it – simply download, install and enjoy.

One of the most recognizable features of the upcoming Windows 8 OS has to be the beautiful Metro user interface, which offers tiles galore in a new, yet seemingly popular approach. Thanks to a brand new Go Launcher theme, you can enjoy something representative of the tiled UI on your Android device.

OK, so it’s not strictly metro – the tiles are all the same size, and arranged in a suspiciously Android / iOS-esque manner, but the cleanliness and minimalism still shines though, if you’re a fan of simple, elegant design, then you needn’t look much further than the Windows 8 Go Launcher Theme, a free download over at the Google Play Store.

If you’ve already installed Go Launcher, then installing the Windows 8 theme is none too difficult. Simply download the theme package from the link below, press the menu button while on the home screen, and click "theme". Then, simply select "Windows 8 Go Launcher theme,"followed by "Apply."

The perfectly symmetrical layout of Android remains prevalent, so don’t expect the full-on Windows 8 experience complete with expanding tiles. Nonetheless, it’s sharp, smart, and will improve the look of any Android home screen, so why not download via the link below and give it a try for yourself?
iTranslate iPhone/iPod/iPad
What do you get when you combine the interface and responsiveness of Siri with the multi-linguistic prowess of Google Translate? Well, a new app for iOS called iTranslate Voice offers a pretty good amalgamation of the two, and is actually surprisingly accurate in its translations.
Translating from one language to another used to be something reserved solely for human translators – most of whom charge premium rates to perfectly process text or speech from one language to another. Google Translate, which is not the finished article by any means, does a pretty decent job in a hurry, and unlike the many word-for-word auto-translation programs and webpages out there, it actually tries to structure the translated text as per the desired language.

Siri, meanwhile, is another unrefined gem in the technology spectrum, and although it has garnered a fair amount of attention, it does have some difficulty hearing and processing a variety of commands – particularly those from a non-American.
Thus, iTranslate Voice does require you speak in a slow, almost patronizing manor in order to properly hear what you’re trying to say, but for a 99 cent app, it actually performs surprisingly well.

It’s not going to translate more than a few short words or a sentence at a time, so it will not suffice for the power users out there, but if you need to quickly translate a phrase, iTranslate Voice is the most convenient and accurate app we’ve encountered here at Redmond Pie.
Created by Sonico Mobile, the Siri-like interface isn’t the only thing iTranslate Voice has in common with Apple’s system-wide voice recognition technology – it’s also powered by the same technology – Nuance, and if Siri were ever to offer support for instantaneous translations, this app demonstrates how it would likely look.

Your conversations with iTranslate Voice are initiated by touching a circular, Siri-esque glowing microphone button, and to add a little spice to the interface, flags of the countries you’re translating to and from are also displayed.
iTranslate covers an impressive 31 languages, but not all of them support both text-to-speech and voice recognition. It requires an internet connection for translations to take place, although it would be useful if there was the option to store some common phrases locally for offline reference – such as in-flight learning before touching down in a new country. Maybe in an update?

NOVA 3 : iPhone/iPod/iPad
Gaming on mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad is fast becoming a huge business for both Apple and the video game developers, and when talking about publishing houses, the one which is on the top shelf is Gameloft. In the recent rise in popularity of mobile gaming, there has been a number of games that have rose to prominence, with Gameloft’s N.O.V.A. being right up there at the top.
Following on from the success of the previous action packed installment, Gameloft has pushed out the latest in the series by flipping the switch on N.O.V.A. 3 – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, abbreviated to N.O.V.A., is a fast packed, action-adventure type game that has been around on the App Store since 2009. Fans of the game, and mobile gaming in general, will be delighted to know that the hero Kal Warden is back, fighting the good fight to protect the Earth and all that is precious.

The developers of the franchise released a trailer yesterday to promote the latest in the N.O.V.A series, with the full release set to land in the UK and USA App Stores at around midnight, which is just a few hours from now. In terms of enjoyment and gameplay, this latest version will pack no serious surprises, brining users a total of ten levels to fight their way through against the enemy. After taking initial control of Warden, gamers will find themselves swarmed by enemies on planet Earth before ultimately finishing the saga on the Volterite capital.

As you would expect, Gameloft have brought their ‘A’ game when it comes to graphics and overall visual experience with this latest release. With gaming houses such as Infinity Ward constantly raising the bar, other development studios need to hit the same standards with their products or face being left behind. N.O.V.A. 3 brings a dramatic improvement to thephysics engine and cinematic effects that are brought about through various techniques and lighting handling methods.

The game will feature a new 12-player multiplayer mode, and a great perk to share a vehicle with a friend, something that is sure to add a whole new depth to the game. With six game modes, ten different levels and massively enhanced graphics, N.O.V.A. 3 looks like it will be a huge hit amongst mobile gamers and should be hitting the App Store, today.
New features include; 12-player multiplayer on six maps, enhanced vehicle gameplay, and ton of new weapons and enemies.

Samsung Introduces the GALAXY S III, the Smartphone
Designed for Humans and Inspired by Nature
Effortlessly smart and intuitively simple,
Samsung GALAXY S III reveals a new concept of smartphone
London, UK—May 3, 2012—Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today the third generation GALAXY S, the GALAXY S III. Designed for humans and inspired by nature, the GALAXY S III is a smartphone that recognizes your voice, understands your intention, and lets you share a moment instantly and easily.
This sleek and innovative smartphone has the enhanced intelligence to make everyday life easier. With Samsung GALAXY S III, you can view the content like never before on the device’s 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display. An 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera offer users a variety of intelligent camera features and face recognition related options that ensure all moments are captured easily and instantly. Samsung GALAXY S III is powered by Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, with greatly enhanced usability and practicality to make life easier. Packed with intuitive technology, the GALAXY S III delivers a uniquely personalized mobile experience that refuses to be compromised.
“With the GALAXY S III, Samsung has maximized the consumer benefits by integrating superior hardware with enhanced smartphone usability,” said JK Shin, President and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung. “Designed to be both effortlessly smart and intuitively simple, the GALAXY S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind. What makes me most proud is that it enables one of the most seamless, natural and human-centric mobile experiences, opening up a new horizon that allows you to live a life extraordinary.”
Introducing Natural Interaction
The GALAXY S III enhances the interaction experience between the device and user. Smart enough to detect your face, voice and motions, the GALAXY S III adapts to the individual user to provide a more convenient and natural experience. With the innovative ‘Smart stay’ feature, the GALAXY S III recognizes how you are using your phone – reading an e-book or browsing the web for instance – by having the front camera identify your eyes; the phone maintains a bright display for continued viewing pleasure.
The GALAXY S III features ‘S Voice,’ the advanced natural language user interface, to listen and respond to your words. In addition to allowing information search and basic device-user communication, S Voice presents powerful functions in regards to device control and commands. When your phone alarm goes off but you need a little extra rest, just tell the GALAXY S III “snooze.” You can also use S Voice to play your favorite songs, turn the volume up or down, send text messages and emails, organize your schedules, or automatically launch the camera and capture a photo.
In addition to recognizing your face and voice, the GALAXY S III understands your motions to offer maximized usability. If you are messaging someone but decide to call them instead, simply lift your phone to your ear and ‘Direct call’ will dial their number. With ‘Smart alert,’ the GALAXY S III will also save you from trouble by catching any missed messages or calls; your phone will vibrate to notify missed statuses when picked up after being idle.
Easy and Instant Sharing
The Samsung GALAXY S III is more than a personal device that can be enjoyed by one user - it wants you to share and experience smartphone benefits with family and friends, regardless of where you are. With the new ‘S Beam,’ the GALAXY S III expands upon Android™ Beam™, allowing a 1GB movie file to be shared within three minutes and a 10MB music file within two seconds by simply touching another GALAXY S III phone, even without a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. The ‘Buddy photo share’ function also allows photos to be easily and simultaneously shared with all your friends pictured in an image directly from the camera or the photo gallery.
With ‘AllShare Cast’, users can wirelessly connect their GALAXY S III to their television to immediately transfer smartphone content onto a larger display. ‘AllShare Play’ can be also used to instantly share any forms of files between GALAXY S III and your tablet, PC, and televisions regardless of the distance between the devices. Under AllShare Play is also the ‘Group Cast’ feature that allows you to share your screen among multiple friends on the same Wi-Fi network; you can make comments and draw changes at the same time with your co-workers, witnessing real-time sharing on your individual device.
Human-centric Design with Uncompromised Performance
The GALAXY S III not only presents features with enhanced usability, but also provides an ergonomic and comfortable experience through its human-centric design. Its comfortable grip, gentle curves, and organic form deliver a rich human-centric feel and design. Inspired by nature, its design concept is the flow and movement of nature. The elements of wind, water and light are all evoked in the physical construct of the GALAXY S III. In its essence, the minimal organic design identity is reflected in the smooth and non-linear lines of the device. Available in Pebble Blue and Marble White at launch, Samsung will introduce a variety of additional color options.
With a 4.8” HD Super AMOLED display, the GALAXY S III offers a large and vivid viewing experience. Samsung Mobile’s heritage Super AMOLED display even enhances to HD and 16:9 wider viewing angles. To ensure faster content sharing and connectivity, the GALAXY S III offers Wi-Fi Channel Bonding which doubles the Wi-Fi bandwidth.
The GALAXY S III also sports a range of additional features that boost performance and the overall user experience in entirely new ways. It introduces ‘Pop up play,’ a feature that allows you to play a video anywhere on your screen while simultaneously running other tasks, eliminating the need to close and restart videos when checking new emails or surfing the Web. Its 8MP camera features a zero-lag shutter speed that lets you capture moving objects easily without delay – the image you see is the picture you take. With the ‘Burst shot’ function that instantly captures twenty continuous shots, and the ‘Best photo’ feature that selects the best of eight photographs for you, the GALAXY S III ensures users a more enhanced and memorable camera experience. HD video can be recorded even with the 1.9MP front-facing camera, which you can use to capture a video of yourself. Improved backside illumination further helps to eliminate blur in photos that result from shaking, even under low lights.
Mobile payment is also accessible with the device through advanced Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The gaming experience is enhanced through ‘Game Hub,’ providing access to numerous social games, while Video Hub brings users high quality TV and movies. Furthermore, Samsung Music Hub will offer a personal music streaming service. Game Hub, Video Hub and Music Hub will be introduced in select countries initially and soon rolled out to global markets.
The Samsung GALAXY S III will be available from the end of May in Europe before rolling out to other markets globally.
